Positive reinforcement training (PRT)

simply means distract from unwanted behavior and replace and reward wanted behavior. Dogs and pet parents learn and have fun using PRT because the emphasis is on rewarding the positive and showing what behavior we do want. Dog training has evolved in the last 20 years to recognize that like any other type of training learners appreciate and retain information if they are acknowledged and rewarded for doing the behavior that is desired .

For instance, we no longer manipulate by manually positioning the dogs rear down while saying "sit".  Today we position a tasty treat that puts the dog in the sit position voluntarily and then we mark the wanted behavior with a marker word, "yes".  The trick is to lure correctly, mark the behavior at the right moment and use the highest value reward.

Not only does training include coaching in how to make the most of our dogs keen sense of desire to learn and please us, training should be educational.  Knowing why dogs do what they do makes the pet parent an empowered trainer enabling their canine friends to achieve success quickly and to keep learning for a lifetime of friendship, love and mutual respect! I can't wait to work with you!

Your energy is your dog's energy!
